The game was released on March 22nd, 2019 in Play Station 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows. The game is set on 16th century federal Japan when the fight between the samurais are at its peak. The story follows a warrior named “Wolf” who has sworn to protect a Young Lord Kuro who has the power of divinity through an ancient bloodline. The player has to go to major extremes to protect Kuro and power he possesses that many vicious enemies want. You have to fight many such enemies to protect Kuro along with trying to get vengeance for himself on Ashina Clan.
Plot
A nameless orphan was adopted and named “wolf” by a wandering shinobi named Ukonzaemon Usui also known as “Owl” in the war-crazed Japan where a warlord Isshin Ashina wanted to take control of the land of Ashina for himself from the ministry and so to achieve his goals he stage d a coup and seized the control. Wolf was trained relentlessly by Owl, two decades later he started to serve a Young Lord Kuro who has Dragon Heritage, as his bodyguard. While the Ashina clan is collapsing due to the elderly Isshin having fallen ill and all the enemies of the clan trying to seize power for themselves.
Genichiro, Isshin’s grandson in a desperate attempt to save his calm seeks out the Divine heir so he can use Kuro’s Dragon heritage to create an immortal army. Genichero and Wolf met in a fierce battle which left Wolf in the brink of death and even he lost his left arm in the battle earning him the name of “One armed wolf” But due to him having the dragon’s blood in him which he received three years ago from Kuro, he wakes up in a temple where he meets sculpture, who made a prosthetic arm that he can use a various weapons throughout the game and a former shinobi named Sekijo who has retired from being a shinobi and now craves buddha.
Wolf now disfigured, disgraced and dishonored; Wolf wants to take revenge on the Ashina Clan, However, the prosthetic arm the sculpture made for him become one of his greatest strength with an arsenal of deadly prosthetic tools and powerful ninja abilities that grants him. With the prosthetic arm, Wolf once again assaults Ashina Castle and this time manage to defeat Genichiro, though Genichiro escaped by drinking rejuvenating waters, which is a replica of Dragon’s blood. Kuro now free can leave Ashina. Instead, he wishes to perform “Immortal Severance” ritual that would remove his dragon heritage and prevent anybody else from gaining immortality through him.
While reluctant wolf decides to help his master and thus embark on a journey to find necessary components for the ritual, including a blade that can cut immortal being named “Mortal Blade.” While on the journey wolf has to choose between many hard choices, his loyalty to Kuro was tested, and many more things happen that help Wolf growing in many ways.
Gameplay
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a heavily combat action Adventure from a third person view. The combat happens using the Katana, so rather than attacking to lessen the enemy’s health point they have to attack their postures and balance players has to parried with their opponent until they find an opening to give the final death blow.
The prosthetic arm can be turned into various weapons collected by Wolf throughout his missions. However, he needs to bring the weapon to the sculpture so that it can be attached to his prosthetic arms. The retired shinobi Sekiro proves to be a very good sparring partner if you need to check out your new weapon. Sekiro also includes gear upgrading, a skill tree, and limited ability customization.
Sekiro: Shadow Die twice also use stealth elements, if a player gets in range of their enemy undetected then they can land the final blow on their enemies immediately, killing them on the spot. The player has a various range of exploring their weapons on their prosthetic arms such as the wind shuriken, grappling hook, etc. if a character dies then they have the ability to revive on the spot if they have the resurrection power which is stored by defeating enemies, However the player will lose their skill by half.
